The Charolais-Charbray Herd Book de Mexico hosted the 2016 Charolais World Congress that concluded recently. The event was centred in the Jalisco and Aguascalientes States and showcased not only a large exhibition of Charolais and Charbray cattle but the culture and heritage of Mexico.
A contingent of 24 Australians attended the event including President, Mr Chris Knox and Breed Development Manager, Mr Colin Rex. During the event the Charolais International Annual General Meeting was held with Mr David Benson, UK being elected as President for the next twelve months. David is retiring in March 2017 after 29 years outstanding service as Manager of British Charolais.
At the National Charolais Show at Aguascalientes there were some 600 Charolais on display and the attendees watched the selection of champions. There was two days to inspect the cattle in the pavilion and to see a massive pavilion full on only Charolais was a tremendous sight. Charbray held their National at Tepatitlan and once again a great line up was on view.
Several ranches were visited and the Charolais Society of Australia had the opportunity to present to the congress on the Australian Charolais industry.
Attendees were also offered an insight into the history and culture of Mexico. The hospitality of our hosts was exceptional and Charolais Australia congratulates the organising committee of this event, it truly was spectacular. A full report will be available in the 2016 July Charolais magazine.
